New figures from ComScore reveal Google Android is continuing to gain market share in the US, with Palm and Microsoft losing ground once again over the past 90 days.
The figures show Android-based smartphones gained 5.2% percentage points during the quarter to February to hold a 9% share of the market. However, market share for Windows Mobile and WebOS platforms fell to 15.11% and 5.4% respectively.
Apple lost some ground, falling one-tenth of a percentage point to 25.4%, while BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion gained 1.3% to 42.1%.
The data also reveals that 45.4 million Americans owned smartphones during the quarter, a massive 21% increase from the previous quarter. Motorola was the top manufacturer with a 24.2% share, followed by LG at 21.7%, Samsung at 21% and Nokia at 9.3%.
