Amazon drops International Kindle price

Retail giant Amazon has cut the price of its international Kindle device by $US259 and will no longer sell the original Kindle, the company revealed in its quarterly earnings report.

Some analysts have labeled the move as a response to Barnes & Noble’s introduction of the “Nook” eReader into the market.

The move comes after the International Kindle device was announced, with customers in over 100 countries now able to download books using the device from the Amazon marketplace.

The move could be a death blow to other companies, as Amazon has a history of lowering price margins in order to compete with rivals. The company also announced the introduction of Kindle reading software for PCs.

The International Kindle is now shipping for international release.
