There’s talk of a mobile phone hybrid in the pipeline as Sony prepares to compete with the iPhone’s growing recognition as a gaming platform.
According to a Reuters report in Tokyo, Sony could be planning to get a PSP-phone project up and running as early as July to combine PlayStation functions into a Sony Ericsson phone.
The Japanese electronics and entertainment giant has trailed recent iPod and iPhone successes, and with more game makers developing Apps for the iPhone, it looks like Sony may want a piece of the action.
At the Apple App store, of the thousands of downloads available, video games are the most popular.
The big question is whether Sony will succeed in receiving enough brand recognition to compete with Apple in the mobile gaming market.
