Flash Player coming to a smartphone near you

The chief executive of Adobe, Shantanu Narayen, has confirmed that the company will release a beta version of its Flash Player for a number of smartphone operating systems in October.

Browsers including Windows Mobile, Google Android, Palm WebOS and Symbian will get the beta version of Flash.

But it appears the iPhone has missed out – at least for now. Narayen says Adobe is keen to put Flash on the iPhone, but Apple needs to come to the party.

“We think it’s in Apple’s and Adobe’s best interest to make sure that Flash is a first-class citizen and we will work with Apple,” he said.

“In order to deliver it as a browser plug-in, we need APIs and support and cooperation from Apple and we are constantly reaching out to them.”
