Last week, Apple released the third version of its iPhone operating software, bringing with it a suite of new features such as cut-copy-paste, multimedia messaging and even turn-by-turn GPS capabilities.
Already, the first turn-by-turn GPS application for Australians has now been released.
The app was released by Sygic, giving turn-by-turn and voice navigation services in an $80 application. While it comes in at a higher price than the average app, it is still well below standalone GPS units, which are often priced in the hundreds of dollars.
The maps used in the application are made by WhereIs, which provides maps for GPS companies Garmin and TomTom. Additionally, the app requires no monthly fee or data usage.
The app is the first to appear for Australian GPS users, but is likely to be overtaken by TomTom when it releases its iPhone app in the next few months.
