Mobile handset manufacturer Research in Motion has followed in Apple’s lead and opened an application store suited for its popular BlackBerry device.
Currently the store is only available for BlackBerry users in the United States, Britain and Canada, but other countries will follow shortly – Australia has not been given a release date.
The applications are available for BlackBerry devices with a touch screen, and come in categories such as entertainment, productivity, utilities, social networking and personal finance and banking.
RIM says it expects about 1000 applications to be uploaded to the store this week by development partners. The company claims to have 21 million BlackBerry users across the world in about 150 countries.
