How Brisbane is encouraging workers to get on their bikes

A few weeks ago, Brisbane Mayor Campbell Newman announced the city will spend $100 million on new bike paths, but that’s not the only way the city is encouraging workers to abandon their cars and get on their bike.

Trend spotting website Springwise says Brisbane City Council and Queensland Transport teamed up to fund a special facility that gives cyclists a place to store their bikes and change into business attire.

The facility, called Cycle2City, gives members access to secure bike parking, air-conditioned locker rooms, showers, laundry service and free bike maintenance classes at the in-house maintenance and repair workshop.

Membership is $120 for one month and $660 for six months, and the facility has signed up 400 members since opening in July last year. Three-day-a-week memberships are also available.

The number of people cycling to work is only increasing, which could create more opportunities for bike-loving entrepreneurs.
