Online payment services group PayPal has dropped its WikiLeaks account, preventing the site from accepting donations.
The development comes after WikiLeaks has sparked massive international controversy after releasing hundreds of thousands of political cables detailing secret conversations and intelligence.
In a statement, PayPal said it had restricted all the activities available through the WikiLeaks account.
It cited the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy, “which states that our payment service cannot be used for any activities that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity”.
