WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is set to meet with British police over rape and sexual molestation accusations laid against him in Sweden.
“Late this afternoon after close of business I got a call from the police who said that they had received an extradition request from Sweden,” British lawyer Mark Stephens told BBC television. “Their request is to interview Julian Assange. He’s not been charged with anything.”
“We are in the process of making arrangements to meet with the police by consent in order to facilitate the taking of that question and answer that is needed.”
Stephens said he could not give a time for when those meetings would occur, but said they would be in the near future.
Assange is wanted for questioning in several countries, including the United States, after WikiLeaks released hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables and documents.
