Most pirates would pay for illegal downloads

Most Australian internet users who download illegal copies of movies and television shows would purchase legal copies of this content if it was offered in a convenient and fast manner.

According to a survey undertaken by the Herald Sun, which questioned more than 7,000 respondents, the majority of respondents said they chose to download illegal material because it was free and convenient.

Additionally, over 66% said they would pay for downloads from a legitimate portal if it was convenient to gain that content.

The survey also found Generation-Y is more prepared to pay more for legal downloads of television and movies than any other age group, while television shows are also more likely to be downloaded than films or music.
