Whistleblower site Wikileaks, which has released prominent secret documents from governments and organisations for the past few years, has been shut down due to lack of funds.
The site has caused controversy around the world, including in Australia when the site released the Government’s controversial blacklist on which the internet filter would be based.
Apparently the site costs about $670,000 to operate, but only a portion of that has been raised this year.
“Even $10 will pay to put one of these reports into another 10,000 hands and $1,000, a million,” founder Julian Assange wrote on the site.
The site has won several awards, and has been the subject of dozens of legal battles during its few years of operation.
