About 2.2 million Australians – or one in five – worked as casuals in November, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
The majority (62%) of people were employees, while a further 9% were independent contractors and 9% were business operators.
More than half of all employees in the accommodation and food services industry (64%) did not earn paid leave entitlements.
The percentage of employees without paid leave were agriculture, forestry and fishing industry (48%), sales (48%), labourers (46%) retail (40%)arts and recreation (39%) professionals (10%) managers (6%).
