The mining sector has resumed a multimillion-dollar advertising campaign to attack the mining and carbon taxes due to come into effect on July 1.
The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) has relaunched national newspaper advertisements declaring it has paid its fair share of tax.
The resumption of the ‘Keep Mining Strong’ campaign breaks the agreement negotiated with Prime Minister Julia Gillard after she ousted Kevin Rudd in the wake of the last advertising push by miners aiming to stop the MRRT, known as the super-profit tax.
After being installed as prime minister, Gillard agreed to a reduced MRRT for the biggest miners.
MCA chief executive Mitch Hooke says the advertisements aimed to counter the “emerging politics of envy and redistribution of wealth”.
“We’re making our position very clear that without a stable tax system, you continue to undermine the industry’s confidence to invest and grow for the long-term,” Hooke told ABC Radio.
