Domino’s ‘desperate’ for 1000 new staff

Pizza-maker Domino Pizza Enterprises (ASX:DMP) is set to add 1000 new jobs due to the growth of new internet ordering platforms such as smartphones and tablet computers.

“Forty percent of all orders are online now, with 30% of those being from mobile apps,” Dominos spokesperson Sarah Broad told LeadingCompany today. “The Domino iPhone ordering app has exceeded 800,000 downloads and the Android apps over 100,000 as of September last year.”

The pizza company will employ extra pizza-makers, delivery drivers and part-time managers.

“Our stores are desperately in need of additional staff,” says Domino’s chief executive Don Meji. “Some stores have as many as 10 jobs available.”

Full-time, part-time and casual jobs will make up the total, although the company could not specify exactly how many in each category. There are 350 jobs are available in Queensland, 300 in NSW, 150 in Victoria, 100 in Western Australia, 50 in South Australia, 21 in the ACT, 20 in Tasmania and 10 in the Northern Territory.

Domino’s, headquartered in Brisbane, is the largest pizza chain in Australia in store number (482) and sales. It is also the largest franchisee of the Domino’s Pizza brand in the world.

Domino’s reported a 22.96% lift in first-half net profit to $12.6 million in February.

Its share price was up 2.38% to $8.60 at 1.45pm today – a stark contrast to the Australian S&P/ASX 200 which was down 0.35% at the time.
