Kaufland searches for local executives … BCA calls for quicker, bigger tax cuts … Aldi’s next ‘special buy’ is a smartphone

With Kaufland coming to Australia is Lidl Australia next?

By Dominic Powell and Emma Koehn.

German ‘hypermarket’ Kaufland has posted a range of job advertisements seeking talent to join its executive staff as the retailer looks to amp up its presence in Australia.

The Australian reports Kaufland has posted roles for executives for property development roles based in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne, potentially hinting at new future site rollouts in these locations.

Further roles include ones for individuals with skills in lobbying, pre-construction management, and environmental issues.

Kaufland’s first site will be in Adelaide, according to reports from earlier this month, with retail experts speculating the location choice came down to high retail prices costs in both Sydney and Melbourne.

BCA calls for quicker, bigger tax cuts

The Business Council of Australia (BCA) is calling on the federal government to lower the top company tax rate from 30%, with chief executive Jennifer Westacott saying in a statement Australia has “languished” behind other countries when it comes to cutting company tax.

“Australia currently has the fifth highest company tax rate in the [Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development] and it will be third highest once the USA and France deliver on their pledges to slash their company tax rates,” Westacott said, reports The Guardian.

“This global action should be a wake up call for the Senate that Australia can not afford to stand still, since every company tax reduction overseas is a de facto tax increase on Australia.”

Despite the government already pledging to lower the company tax rate to 25% over the next 10 years, and rolling out the first part of the plan by lowering the rate to 27.5% for small businesses, Westacott believes the cuts are not being delivered quickly enough to bigger businesses.

Aldi’s next ‘special buy’ is a smartphone

Aldi fans have been forced to wait another week after having their interests piqued by a first-of-its-kind ‘special buy’, with the discount retailer promising to sell refurbished iPhone 6s next weekend.

News.com.au reports the discount supermarket had advertised the offer for October 14, but due to a stock delay the phones will now be available in stores from next Monday.

The supermarket will be selling the 16GB units for about $20 cheaper than other online providers, but the offer has been of interest to customers because these phone models are no longer sold through Apple’s online stores.
