Whereis.com has launched a new function offering landmark indicators to its driving directions application.
The website run by Sensis, a subsidiary of Telstra, offers a landmark finder based on research carried out by University of Melbourne.
The landmarks determined are based on three main principles: where the landmark is located, its relativity to a route decision point, and a landmark’s meaning.
Research for the new application found that humans have a greater capacity to process directions when they refer to tangible places rather than abstract distances.
