Apple received praise from tech pundits last week for unveiling the latest update to the iPhone, the iPhone 3G S, with pre-order units now sold out ahead of the 19 June launch date in the US.
The company has now said that customers pre-ordering the phone from now until next week will not receive their unit on launch day and may have to wait up to two weeks for their device to arrive.
Telco AT&T, the only carrier with the iPhone 3G S in the US, has set aside a certain number of devices to purchase at stores but will not reveal how many units have been sold so far.
Both companies hope to exceed the iPhone 3G’s launch sales, which totaled over one million units in three days. But with the higher 3G S upgrade price, some users may be deterred from upgrading until another model is announced, perhaps as late as next year.
