As part of the countdown to the billionth application sold on Apple’s App Store, the company is offering a MacBook, a $10,000 iTunes voucher, and an iPod Touch.
The App Store has been extremely popular since its release with the 3G iPhone in July 2008, selling hundreds of millions of apps and creating a community of developers in the process.
Developers were encouraged by Apple to create different applications, and were offered a revenue split of 70/30 in the developer’s favour, which has caused some apps to create some significant amounts of cash.
Apple has listed the top 20 free and paid apps on the store, including apps such as Facebook, Google Earth and internet radio app Pandora. The company will draw a winner from one of the store’s users who has downloaded one of the designated apps.
The countdown can be viewed here.
