More Dick Smith employees have lost their jobs after the electronic chain’s receivers announced this afternoon the Move stores located at Sydney Airport will cease trading.
Approximately 48 staff are affected and will be offered the opportunity to be redeployed at the remaining Dick Smith stores until the store closure program winds up.
James Stewart, partner at Ferrier Hodgson, said in a statement a suitable buyer was unable to be found.
“Unfortunately, we have been unable to reach agreement to sell the Move Airport assets and have no option but to close the stores located at Sydney International Airport effective from today,” Stewart said.
Ferrier Hodgson announced last week all of Dick Smith’s non-airport stores will close down over the next few weeks.
The retailer’s customer database and websites are currently for sale.
