Guests at two hotels in California, the Malibu Beach Inn and Sky Hotel, can now order food, drinks, wake-up calls, spa treatments, transportation and other concierge services from a new application on their iPhones or iPods.

After logging on with their room number and a security pass, the application allows guests to look up information on shops, nightlife and entertainment in the local area.

The application – dubbed Hotel Evolution – was created by tech group Runtriz, which says the system is also being rolled out in other hotels.

“We would love to expand outside of the states to luxury properties in Australia, but as of yet are not in discussion with any properties there,” a spokeswoman told The Age.
