People over 70 are having more sex than ever before, and having a whole lot of fun doing it, new research has revealed.

The Australian reports that social scientists surveyed intermittently more than 1500 men and women aged over 70 in the Swedish city of Gothenburg between 1971 and 2001.

Over that period the number of married men over 70 who said they were still having sex increased from 52% to 68%, while for married women the figure increased from 28% to 56%.

Presumably that means there are approximately 10% of over-70 men having sex with a partner under 70. Then again, perhaps they were just trying to impress the researchers.

The number of oldies who said they were having sex every week also increased, up from 10% to 31% for men, and 9% to 26% for women.

And it’s not just the quantity of sex that has increased – the oldies are also boasting that quality has gone up. The number of older men reporting satisfaction with their sex lives lifted from 58% to 71% and women from 41% to 62%.
