SMEs shun VoIP

SMEs are reluctant to adopt voice-over-internet systems due to cost and performance concerns, new research shows.

A survey conducted by Viatel shows over 50% of respondents have not set up voice-over-internet systems, citing their main concerns as unreliable call quality and high prices to ensure good connections.

But 95% of SMEs that have not set up voice-over-internet for their business are keen to do so.

Alastair Buck, director of voice for Viatel, tells itnews.com.au that the industry needs to put more efforts into educating prospective users.

“Smaller businesses are looking for cost-effective solutions going forward, and this is even more important in the current climate,” he adds. “You get what you pay for, but you don’t have to go for very expensive technology to get a good quality service.”
