Big dollars flow for saucy .asia domain names

The battle is on to secure web addresses in the world’s newest domain, .asia – and sex oriented addresses are proving the most popular.

iTWire reports that the organisation that administers .asia, DotAsia Organisation, has received more than 500,000 domain name applications in the lead up to the domain going live on 26 March.

Of the 50,000 odd domain names that received more than one application, 300 contained some variation on the domain name “sex.asia”.

But “buy.asia” is shaping up as the most in demand domain name, with over 400 applicants. Others in the top five were hot.asia, gold.asia, fun.asia, girl.asia.

Of the domain names that have already been snapped up in auctions, the biggest dollars so far have been forked over for the ace.asia domain name, which was bought for $US20,501, followed by tyco.asia at $US7600.
