Men born between 1942 and 1951 are much more likely to be still working than previous generations, according to new analysis of job trends by the Reserve Bank.
Higher workforce participation among mature workers, immigrants, women aged between 25 and 54 and the long term unemployed has boosted Australia’s labour supply.
But the RBA also said there are more older Australians who could be working. Australia’s participation rates for people aged 55 to 64 years are below Canada, Britain and the US, and well below Sweden.
The workforce participation rate rose to a peacetime high of 65.1%, found the Reserve Bank.
