Tech and online retail giant Amazon has posted a video on its YouTube account hinting at the imminent release of a smartphone with a 3D display.
The video, titled “Find out what these Amazon customers are talking about”, features a group of customers describing how incredible a new device – out of shot – is.
The company has also posted a page inviting Amazon customers, developers and journalists to sign up for a launch event in Seattle, Washington on June 18.
Amazon has long been rumoured to be keen to add a smartphone to its Kindle range of tablets and TV set-top boxes.
In July 2012, The Wall Street Journal reported the company was working with component manufacturers on manufacturing the new device.
By October 2013, the rumours had shifted to suggest the company was collaborating with troubled Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC on a new device.
In April of this year, the Wall Street Journal again printed reports claiming the device was coming and would feature a 3D display, while in early May BGR reported leaked photos of a device it claimed was a Kindle smartphone.
