Telstra opens its TIPT VOIP platform to third-party app developers

Telstra has announced it is opening up its TIPT (Telstra Internet Protocol Telephony) platform up to third-party app developers.

TIPT is a platform for providing voice and video communications over the internet, and forms a key part of the carrier’s voice over internet protocol (VOIP) product offering.

The release of the TIPT Application Programming Interface (API) will mean third-party customers and developers will be able to develop apps based on the platform.

Alongside the new API, the carrier announced a three-tier certification for apps using the platform.

The first tier includes apps that are developed, operated and supported by Telstra, including the carrier’s UC-one collaboration suite.

The second tier includes accredited apps supported by the carrier’s partners, including Microsoft Lync and TIPT integration.

The third tier is open, allowing for custom third-party apps.

In a statement, Telstra’s executive director for global products and solutions, Philip Jones, said benefits to business would include including quicker response times and improved services.

“We are enabling our customers and partners to do things that they haven’t been able to do before by integrating our carrier grade voice and video TIPT solution into their businesses,” Jones said.

“We are also creating new business models for our partners and third party developers where they can innovate on our platform and create new revenue streams whist driving value for customers.”
