Victorian government updates ICT strategy

Victorian Technology Minister Gordon Rich-Phillips has released the state’s updated ICT strategy for 2014-15, with public cloud frameworks, mobile technologies and public access to government datasets marked as key priorities.

According to the report, the state government’s top priority in the ICT sector is to improve its websites and apps.

The state government also announced it plans to introduce new whole-of-government guidelines governing state public sector use of social media, with the policy due to be released in February of next year.

A key objective is to build on the Commonwealth government’s ‘My Gov’ service to provide a secure identity management system for state government services, with at least five services due to use the system by December 2014.

The report also says that the transition of key services online, a key priority of a previous ICT strategy, remains on track.

In terms of mobility for state government employees, the report says bring your own device (BYOD) will be a key plank of its strategy going forward.
