There’s more bad news afoot for Research in Motion, with new reports suggesting the embattled BlackBerry maker is looking to cut 3,000 jobs by the end of August.
According to Canadian tech blog CanTech, there is mounting speculation that the company wants to complete its previously announced 5,000 layoffs by the end of August, with the company anticipated to lay off 3,000 staff on August 13.
It would be on top of the 2,000 jobs cut by the troubled smartphone maker in May.
Sources at the company claim that developers working on RIM’s repeatedly delayed BlackBerry 10 platform, now expected to be released in 2013, will be safe from the job cuts.
The latest news comes just weeks after the company was recently ordered to pay $US147.2 million in damages after losing a patent lawsuit, and put its corporate jet up for sale.
