If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh otherwise they’ll kill you. Oscar Wilde said it. It was true then and it’s true now.
Power Players get one very basic truth of human nature. For many (if not most) of us, the truth is hard to hear. It’s even harder when it’s something so confronting, or so awful that we do everything we can to run way from it.
Power Players always make them laugh just before telling them the truth. They use humour as the release valve to truth. Power Players know it’s exactly the elixir required to help the recipient of said truth face the music.
Every time you need to tell an uncomfortable truth, pre-empt with humour – a joke, a good story, something – anything that will make them laugh.
The other thing Power Players know about humour is that it gives perspective to the truth.
No matter how bad the truth, invariably there are worse things in the world and humour has a terrific way of delivering some much-needed perspective.
