The NSW police have raided the Health Services Union

The NSW police have raided the Health Services Union (HSU) east branch headquarters, while the Australian Federal Police (AFP) announced they have enough evidence to launch a criminal investigation against Peter Slipper.

“The AFP can confirm it received a referral to investigate allegations of fraud made against Mr Peter Slipper MP on April 21, 2012,” the AFP said in a statement.

“As part of the evaluation process for this referral, AFP investigators spoke to a number of potential witnesses and gathered information in relation to the matter.”

“The AFP has now assessed that the matter requires further investigation.”

Slipper has strenuously denied all allegations.

But Kathy Jackson, HSU national secretary says today’s police raid is likely to uncover evidence of corruption in her branch.

“I have no doubt that the police will uncover documents that will prove that,” Jackson told reporters, saying the raid was “a long time coming” and “the organisation needs cleaning up”, according to AAP.

A press conference by NSW Police on the HSU raid will be held later today.
