Power Play: Know when it’s time to play hooky

Each day entrepreneur Rose Herceg presents a how-to power tip that challenges the typical Machiavellian theories of power. This is the Power Playbook: your quick-fix guide to influencing people – in a good way.

Power Players don’t get sanctimonious about the occasional day off. Playing hooky can be magnificent for the soul.

When you’re working at a million miles an hour and need to be at the top of your game, stopping for a day of sleeping in, seeing a movie or watching TV all day, can be incredibly restorative.

Power Players know that the world won’t fall apart if they step off the merry-go-round for a day.

It can be the best way of getting back some much-needed perspective or having some good old-fashioned fun without a deadline.

The great Power Players I know can play hooky with the best of them – without the guilt and self-flagellation that goes with doing absolutely nothing. And it’s often in those moments of doing nothing that the best ideas come and the crazy goes away and you find your centre. Power Players have always known this and it’s saved them (and their careers) more than once. Try it. Get good at it.

Use it. Not only is it fun, but it will your reset your head, too.
