Amazon founder and chief executive with paid a salary of just $US81,840 in 2012, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchanges Commission.
According to the filing, the remainder of Bezos’ $US1.68 million total compensation came in the form of security arrangements at “business facilities” and corporate travel.
Bloomberg reports the figure makes Bezos one of the lowest-paid chief executives in Silicon Valley.
Amazon states that it pays its executives a “minimum level of cash compensation” as the company believes executive compensation should be tied to building shareholder value.
Bezos owns around 19% of the stock in Amazon, with his stake worth more than $US23.5 billion.
