Dear Aunty B,
I recently started a new job and one of the few things I brought to the office was a special mug that was painted by my child for my birthday.
But a few weeks ago the mug disappeared from my desk. I’ve been diligently checking the kitchen for signs of its whereabouts.
And then I found it. On the desk of a senior manager who appears to have been using it to drink crude oil laced with tar.
I know it’s a small thing, but to me this is unacceptable behaviour. It was a gift from my kid, as anyone could see from the brilliant (joking, joking) picture on the front. Just disrespectful.
Do I just take the mug back? Or am I entitled to give him a good talking to?
Mugged,
Perth
Dear Mugged,
What a heinous crime! You are right to be as upset as you clearly are!
If I wasn’t such a sensible Aunty, I would suggest some terrible revenge, like giving him one sugar instead of two or sighing loudly in his general direction.
You’re not seriously worked up over this, are you? If anything, I’d be using this as a chance to expand your network in your new business.
Go over to him and explain that he’s using your special mug and make a joke about how smart your child is. I am sure he will be super apologetic and you’ll immediately start a conversation about your families.
Whatever you do, don’t make a scene. Your card will be rightly marked as a whinger.
Be smart,
Your Aunty B
