Microsoft has unveiled key details of its Intel-based Surface pro tablet device, which the company expects to launch in January next year.
Unlike the ARM processor-based consumer version of the Surface tablet, which runs Windows RT, the Surface Pro runs a full version of Windows 8 Pro and is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor. As a result, it will be compatible with most desktop Windows 7 and Windows 8 apps, unlike its consumer counterpart.
According to PC World, Microsoft will sell the 64GB version of the device in the US for $US899, with a 128GB version costing $US999.
Both versions will come with a Surface pen, however the company will charge an additional $US119.99 for a touch cover or $US129.99 for its type cover.
Please note that these are US prices, with the device likely to be more expensive in Australia.
The device will also feature a full-sized USB 3.0 port, along with a Mini DisplayPort connector that will support a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels on an external monitor.
