The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple a patent on displaying a page-turning animation in eBooks, despite prior art for the “invention”.
The page-turning animation is covered by patent D670713, with Apple filing for the application in December 2011.
The patent was awarded despite a page-turning animation being used in a BeOS application in the early 1990s:

The patent was awarded against the backdrop of ongoing patent litigation between Apple and other leading consumer electronics companies.
