The Calligra team has released the first full release version of the Calligra Project office suite, which joins LibreOffice and OpenOffice.org as an open source alternative to Microsoft Office.
Originally part of KDE, the Calligra Project includes a full suite of office applications handling word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint-style presentations, diagrams, databases, vector graphics, photo editing and project management. These apps use Open Document Format (ODF) and are Microsoft Office compatible.
Aside from the desktop version – known as Calligra Suite – the Calligra team have also released a mobile version for Nokia’s N900 smartphone (Calligra Mobile) and a document viewer for tablet computers running KDE Plasma Active (Calligra Active).
Unlike the test version released in January, which was intended for evaluation and test purposes only, the latest release is a full version of the suite and is suitable for use in production environments.
