Medicaid servers in the US state of Utah have been attacked by Eastern European hackers, leading to the theft of 181,000 patient records and 25,000 Social Security Numbers.
According to ZDNet, the servers are maintained by the Utah Department of Technology Services (DTS) on behalf of the Utah Department of Health (UDOH).
DTS claim that the attack came after Medicaid claim records were moved to a new server and was caused with a “configuration error”.
The attack is the latest in a string of high profile attacks on US-based high-security government and enterprise targets, including a recent breach at a major US credit card processing company.
