Apple has made a surprise announcement overnight, confirming the launch of the next version of the OS X software, codenamed Mountain Lion.
New software is usually announced at keynote presentations, but Apple has surprised everyone by announcing the software with virtually no anticipation overnight.
The new software comes with iCloud Support, Notification Centre, Game Centre, Reminders, Notes and a new Safari browser, many of which were introduced to the iOS platform last year.
The new Messages platform will allow users to send instant messages to users on iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads.
While the developer version of the software has been released today, it won’t be available to the public until the American summer.
