Facebook developing HTML5 app project

Social networking giant Facebook is reportedly working on a project that will see the company develop HTML5-based apps in order to bypass Apple’s app distribution platform, new reports suggest.

The new project, reportedly codenamed “Spartan”, is an attempt at delivering a high-quality mobile experience without having to adhere to Apple rules.

According to TechCrunch, the project has 80 developers currently working on it and will include the ability to access other apps through iOS devices, such as games like FarmVille. Currently some Facebook features are unavailable when browsing through iPad’s Safari program.

The report also claims the ultimate goal of the project is to have app and game developers work through Facebook directly, rather than Apple’s own ecosystem.
