Windows Mobile to beat Android by 2015

The Windows Mobile platform is set to take out the Google Android operating system by 2015, according to new figures from Pyramid Research.

According to Boy Genius Report, the firm says total global smartphone sales will come to 1.46 billion units in 2011, making up 27% of all mobile phone sales.

“Much of the projected total market growth in 2011 will come from the Africa and Middle East (AME) region, which will see a strong demand for low-end smartphone models, ultra low-cost handsets and dual-SIM and full touch-screen feature phones,” senior analyst Stela Bokun told the publication.

But he also noted that over the next four years, Windows will become the dominant platform – most likely because of its recent tie-up with Nokia which will see the manufacturing company use the Microsoft OS.
