Billionaire Richard Branson plans to head to the bottom of one of the world’s deepest oceans, as part of Virgin’s plans to send a deep-sea submersible into the each of the world’s five oceans.
The expeditions will provide an “unprecedented opportunity to conduct scientific research and to expand our knowledge of the unique conditions, ecosystems and geology that exist at the bottom of the ocean,” CNET.com quotes the company as saying.
Branson, founder of the Virgin empire, is reportedly planning to pilot a submersible to the Puerto Rico Trench in the Atlantic Ocean.
Other dives will be Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean, Diamantina Trench in the Indian Ocean, South Sandwich Trench in the Southern Ocean and Molloy Deep in the Artic Ocean.
