Twitter chairman Jack Dorsey has returned to the company he once helmed in a new role as head of product, he announced in a tweet overnight.
Dorsey said he will now be taking the new role, with executive chairman as his official title. He will remain chief executive of Square, his mobile payments company, with the two companies sharing offices in close proximity.
The return comes after reports that Dorsey was in negotiations to return, following his ousting from the company three years ago. At that time, Evan Williams took over as chief executive, and the relationship between the two entrepreneurs deteriorated, according to various reports.
TechCrunch has reported that Williams hasn’t been present at Twitter as much as he was previously.
“Evan decided a couple months ago to be less involved day-to-day at Twitter. He continues to have a close relationship with the company providing strategic advice and, of course, he remains an active board member,” a spokesperson told the publication.
