Wall Street Journal to sell individual issues through iPad

The Wall Street Journal has announced it will begin selling individual issues through its iPad app, hot on the heels of the New York Times’ announcement of a digital pay-wall.

A spokesperson has confirmed to Mashable that each issue will be available for $US1.99. Some of the content will still be free, but users will need to buy the whole issue to gain access to all the content.

The WSJ already operates a digital paywall, with full access for all its apps costing $US3.99 every week.

“We have found historically that people are more likely to subscribe after they’ve sampled the product –- whether it’s Open House promotions on the site or access via the Starbucks Digital Network,” the spokesperson said.

“We continue to seek new distribution channels.”
