News Corp is eyeing the social gaming space, according to a new report, with the company saying the space has a sustainable business model.
Jonathon Miller, head of News Corp’s digital media group, said at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit that “social gaming has a business model”.
“People who play FarmVille actually spend real money to buy virtual food or whatever it may be for their pig. Most people don’t but enough do so that it’s a real business.”
According to The Register, Miller said the firm would want to work on its own social gaming business rather than acquire an established company, such as Zynga.
“We’re putting a toe and then a foot in the water and we’ll see how that goes,” he said.
