PC repair business and “green” data centre collapses into administration

The wave of early-year company collapses is continuing, with a computer repair business and one of Australia’s first “green” data centres being placed in administration.

Australian Computer Doctors, which is based in the NSW city of Wollongong, was placed in the hands of administrator Danny Vrkic on March 1.

The business, which had technicians in most states of Australia, was started by Tariq Khattab, Paul Horowitz and David Smyth in 2005, and by 2009 had built a team of 18 staff.

Vrkic told SmartCompany this morning that was too early to pinpoint a reason for the collapse.

The business is continuing to trade and Vrkic says a director intends to put forward a deed of company arrangement to restructure the company.

The first meeting of creditors will be held on March 11.

In Melbourne, Mathew Muldoon and Ken Sellers from insolvency firm SellersMuldoonBenton have been installed as administrators of data centre operator ADX 1, which collapsed on February 24.

The company promoted its data centre in the Melbourne suburb of Port Melbourne as one of Australia’s first “green” data centres, running on low-carbon energy.

It is unknown how many clients have been affected by the collapse. It does not appear that the data centre is still operational.

It is believed that investors from Hong Kong and Australia backed ADX1, which started having problems in late 2010.

Mathew Muldoon was not able to be reached for comment.
