Melbourne: second most liveable city in Economist survey

Melbourne has been voted as the world’s second most liveable city, according to a new report released by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Vancouver was voted as the world’s most liveable city, while Melbourne took over from Vienna, which came in second last year. Sydney was also in the top 10, voted in at seventh.

The EIU survey ranks cities based on a number of factors, including access to health care, education, environment protection and culture. Report editor Jon Copestake said in a statement most of the most liveable cities were “mid-sized”.

“…cities in developed countries with relatively low population densities tend to score well by having all the cultural and infrastructural benefits on offer with fewer problems related to crime or congestion.”

Zimbabwe capital Harare came in last place, while London came in 53rd, Paris came in 16th and Osaka ranked in at 12th.
