Google receives 75,000 CVs in a week

Internet giant Google has received over 75,000 resumes in just one week after the company announced 2011 will be its biggest hiring year ever.

According to a report from Bloomberg, a spokesperson from the company has said the number of resumes received during the past seven days has beaten the previous record set in May 2007 by 15%.

The resume spree comes as the company wants to hire more people in its mobile services, display advertising and internet applications divisions – especially in Asia-Pacific.

The Australian office also hopes to increase its engineer headcount by about 50%.

“We’re looking for top talent,” Alan Eustace, senior vice president of engineering and research,” said last week in a blog post.

“We’ll hire as many smart, creative people as we can to tackle some of the toughest challenges in computer science: like building a web-based operating system from scratch, instantly searching an index of more than 100 million gigabytes and even developing cars that drive themselves.”
