Tech giant Apple has been sued by a resident of Alameda California who argues the company has been transmitting data to third parties without user consent.
As reported by Information Week, Anthony Chiu has filed a complaint that states Apple is sending data to third parties who would then be able to identify individual users as a result.
“Consequently, anyone who has used a mobile device to browse the internet to obtain advice about hemorrhoids, sexually transmitted disease, abortion, drug rehabilitation, or care for the elderly; to search for jobs, seek out new romantic partners, engage in political activity; in fact, to do more or less anything; can be reasonably sure that the browsing history created by such investigation has been incorporated into a detailed dossier for sale to marketers,” the complaint apparently states.
The filing relies up on the existence of Apple’s Unique Device Identifiers, which are used as a type of serial number. Chiu claims these identifiers are being displayed to app developers.
