Online retail giant Amazon has updated the royalties for newspaper and magazine publishers on its Kindle device in the hope of attracting new deals.
The company said that starting from December 1, publishers will now take 70% of all revenue excluding delivery costs. While the company has not said how much publishers are currently making, it said in a statement the new figures represent a “larger share of revenue”.
Publishers need to make their content available on all versions of the Kindle eReader, and Kindle software for other devices including Android and the iOS.
The company has also introduced a range of software tools that will make it easier for publishers to launch content on the device. Publishers will now be able to add an account, and then preview their content before posting it online.
The updates come as the eReader and tablet market is beginning to heat up, with a range of manufacturers including Apple, Samsung and Dell all having released, or planning to release, their own tablets.
