Apple to increase iTunes preview lengths

Tech giant Apple has reportedly said it will increase the time given for music previews on its iTunes Store, in a step towards streaming services.

It has been rumoured this change was coming, but until now Apple has made no official comment on the matter.

But in a letter sent to major music labels, Apple has said it will be increasing the amount of time for music previews from 30 seconds to 90.

“We are pleased to let you know that we are preparing to increase the length of music previews from 30 seconds to 90 seconds on the iTunes Store in the United States. We believe that giving potential customers more time to listen to your music will lead to more purchases,” the letter states, according to Mashable.

The change comes as analysts predict Apple will beginning to more streaming-based services, rather than a purchase-only model it has used so far.
